SACO LITTLE LEAGUE DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS

Development Division - Single A (ages 7-8, some 6s)

The Single A Division consists primarily of league age 7-year-old players. Eight-year-olds participating in their first season or looking to improve their fundamentals are placed in this division to prepare
them for kid pitch the following year. This is an instructional division where players hit "live" Reduced Injury Factor (RIF) balls pitched by their own coach from a short distance. No scores are kept, but at this level three outs are recorded, which end each half inning. On defense each team is allowed up to ten (10) defensive positions. At this level the fundamentals of baseball continue to be reinforced and players are introduced to additional aspects of the game.

Development Division - Double A (ages 7-8, some 9s)

The Double A Division consists primarily of league age 8-year-old players and is the first introduction to “kid pitch” baseball where the players pitch to the opposing team. Nine-year-olds can petition to participate in this division if they do not feel they are ready for the Minors division. After 4 balls, the opposing coach will step in to finish, continuing with the same count. Strikeouts are introduced at this level. No scores are kept, but at this level three outs are recorded, which ends each half inning. On defense each team is allowed up to ten (10) defensive positions (4 Outfielders). At this level the fundamentals of baseball continue to be reinforced and players are introduced to additional aspects of the game.

Minors Division (ages 9-10, some 8s)

The Minors Division is the first "live baseball" division consisting primarily of league age 9 and 10-year-old players. League age 8-year-old players are allowed to petition up given that they participated in the Double A division in the prior season with the league or a similar division in another Little League. Teams are formed through a manager draft process supervised by the Division Coordinator, Player Agent, and League President. Little League baseball rules are observed, but additional rules may be drafted and approved by the board for this division.

Players pitch and all players in the lineup bat. On defense each team will have nine (9) defensive positions, and scores and standings are kept. Trained volunteer umpires enforce the Rules and Regulations of Little League Baseball. Players are taught advanced fundamentals of baseball such that they are exposed to pitching techniques, playing positions, defensive pre‐pitch preparedness, live batting, and aggressive base running.  A postseason tournament will determine the champion for the division.

Majors Division (ages 11-12, some 10's)

The Majors Division is "draft" level and represents true competitive play. It is generally oriented for experienced players league age 11 and 12, though 10-year-old players are eligible to petition to the board to play-up. All players are required to evaluate and teams are formed through a manager draft process supervised by the Division VP, Player Agent, and League President.

Players pitch and all players in the lineup bat. The standard nine baseball defensive positions are used and scores and standings are kept. This level focuses on more advanced skill development. Players are exposed to faster pitching speeds, harder hit balls, and the overall pace of the game is much faster. The average speed of a pitched baseball at this level ranges from 45 to 60 miles per hour.  Trained volunteer umpires enforce the Rules and Regulations of Little League Baseball.
